1 – Migraine
Summary: It’s not just a headache, it’s a disease.
Symptoms: Throbbing headache; light, noise and smell sensitivity; nausea and vomiting.
Pain Level: Moderate – Severe.
Triggers: Stress, changes in sleep pattern, hormones and air, some foods.
2 – Tension Headache
Summary: 90% of people suffer from tension headache at least once in their lifetimes.
Symptoms: Compression, pressure, heaviness, dullness on the head. Loss of attention and concentration, neck pain.
Pain Level: Mild – Moderate (does not affect daily life).
Triggers: Stress and fatigue.
3 – Sinus Headache
Summary: Frequently confused with migraine. Half of migraineurs think that they have sinusitis.
Symptoms: Pain around eyes and nose, stuffy nose. Fever may accompany other symptoms.
Pain Level: Moderate – Severe.
Triggers: Acute sinus infection (common cold etc.).
4 – Cluster Headache
Summary: Particularly in young men (0.1%). Has typical characteristics.
Symptoms: Excruciating pain on one eye and temple. Sudden beginnings and ends. Usually rhythmic, 1-hour pains that come in the same 1-2 months of the year and the same times of the day. Sweating and fidgeting are typical.
Pain Level: Unbearable.
Triggers: Alcohol, sometimes smoking.
5 – Migraine in Children
Summary: Headache is not that popular. There can be just a stomachache, nausea and vomiting.
Symptoms: Mild headache, stomachache, vomiting attacks, car sickness, colic.
Pain Level: Mild. Nausea, severe stomachache.
Triggers: School buses, crowded and stuffy places.
6 – Hormonal Migraine
Summary: Attacks before, during and after menstrual period.
Symptoms: Typical migraine pain and PMS symptoms (anger, stomachache and swelling).
Pain Level: Severe.
Triggers: Hormonal disorders, hormone therapy drugs, gynecological interferences (C-section, abortion, intrauterine devices).
7 – Chronic Headache
Summary: Patient suffers from headaches more than 15 days in a month.
Symptoms: Headache (one-side or whole head), neck and back pains. Fatigue, depression, sadness.
Pain Level: Medium – Severe.
Triggers: No triggers needed since it is already chronic. An increase may be observed due to stress.
