1 – What is Vertigo? What Are the Symptoms?

What is vertigo?

• Vertigo is feeling the world spin as a result of spatial disorientation.
• Nausea, vomiting and ringing in the ears may accompany the problem.
• Sudden movements trigger it.
• Keeping the head still helps.
• It comes in attacks and may last for a couple days or weeks.

2 – What Triggers Vertigo?

Vertigo is triggered with sudden movements. Especially in the morning, abruptly getting out of the bed triggers vertigo and the world begins spinning.

Likewise, turning your head too fast or standing up cause the same result. In severe cases, even eye movements can trigger your vertigo.

3 – Benign Positional Vertigo

In most cases, headaches do not result from a serious condition. Most common version of vertigo is benign positional vertigo.

• Periods between vertigo attacks may even be as long as months or years.
• Although the attacks affect life severely, they do not leave any mark on the body.
• Patient is healthy between attacks.
• You may experience dizziness, nausea and vomiting.
• Tinnitus may accompany the attacks.
• No hearing loss is observed.

4 – What is Meniere’s Disease?

Meniere’s is a malign version of vertigo. It does not respond to any treatment and keeps progressing.

What are the symptoms?

• An edema forms and excessive fluid accumulates in inner ear. This condition keeps progressing over the years.
• The attacks are severe.
• Hearing loss gets severe as well.
• A diet and restricting salt intake are suggested but neither of them is effective.

5 – What is Vertiginous Migraine?

Vertiginous migraine is the combination of vertigo and headache. Vertigo appears as the aura of the migraine.

• When the headache gets severe, vertigo may stay or go away.

6 – What is Tinnitus?

7 – What Triggers Tinnitus?

Tinnitus may occur without an apparent reason. When following conditions are present attacks may become frequent:

• Being exposed to loud noises (acoustic trauma), gun firings, loud music,
• Some orthodontic treatments, traumatic tooth pullings,
• Some antibiotics (like ototoxic tuberculosis drugs) or intense drug treatments.

8 – Sudden Hearing Loss

Sudden hearing loss is a severe condition occurring in one ear abruptly. A pain and tinnitus in the affected ear may accompany the problem. If it is treated soon enough, the damage can mostly be recovered.

In most cases hearing loss becomes permanent on some level. This is a condition requiring emergent treatment.
