A headache is the pain resulting from the veins and muscles on the head-neck area, temporomandibular joint and scalp. When this happens, we often feel like our brain is hurting but actually brain cannot feel any pain. It is in somewhere else around it.
The most common one is tension type headache. Migraine is the best known and has the most negative effects on life quality. Cluster headache, is rare but severe. Trigeminal neuralgia, pain is often excruciating, similar to an electric shock.
If the patient suffers from headaches more than fifteen days in a month, that means they developed a chronic headache. Chronic headache patients usually take excessive amounts of drugs and this condition is called chronic daily headaches.
Headaches which are caused by brain damage or some metabolic condition are called secondary headaches. Infections, tumors, strokes, cerebral hemorrhages, temporal arthritis, hypertension and some drugs may cause headaches of this type.
While headaches that are lasting for a lifetime may not cause any damage, a one-time ache may be life-critical. Brain hemorrhages, especially SAH (rupture of an aneurism / subarachnoid hemorrhage) cause a sudden and severe headache. This condition is an absolute emergency since it threatens life.
Cluster headache and trigeminal neuralgia are diseases caused by the tooth-jaw complex!
Almost all trigeminal neuralgia patients, i.e. 99,9%, think that the reason is their teeth.
This ratio is 60% in cluster headache patients and after the relation between teeth and headache is explained, it raises to 80%.
