I would like to start my story by presenting my respect, love and gratitude to my dear doctor, Emel Gökmen. Not only did she treat my migraine and fibromyalgia pain, but also she changed my point of view about medicine and science. Dr Emel is a distinctive person, a special doctor. It is a great chance for me to be able to meet her at an early age. I suffered from migraine for 7 years and apparently I had fibromyalgia for the last 3-4 years. I wasn’t able to wake up early in the mornings and didn’t want to go to work. I didn’t have enough energy to have dinner as I felt so tired. I started to think that I was lazy so did the people around me. As I couldn’t enjoy anything and people thought my complaints were ‘psychological’, namely they considered me as an abnormal person. I read Dr Emel’s book last January. It took me only one day to finish it. I comprehended that her treatment would heal me even while reading her book. I thought I had an electrical disorder. I am also a migraine patient. The relationship with sore throat also draw my attention. When I consulted my doctor in her clinic, she listened to my story in details very carefully and told me that I had had fibromyalgia as well. I had an illness not some physical symptoms, which were just psychological. I cannot tell you how happy I was to be diagnosed with an illness and my symptoms were the results of an illness with a name. I felt much better in the first session. I entered the ALES exam, which I could never encourage to do before. I couldn’t get a very high grade but still I managed to get a passing grade. Hello. I am a cluster headache sufferer. I had this excruciating pain for 22 years. I consulted so many doctors and went to different countries to get treatment, but nothing benefited until I came across Dr. Emel Gökmen on the internet. First of all, I thank Dr. Emel for saving me from these pains. I experienced migraine with aura at a very young age. I would see flashing lights and weird things which I cannot even describe and feel incredible pain afterwards. I would experience it almost 8 times a year. The frequency of the attacks could sometimes be more or less. I suffered the most severe migraine in 2011. I was taken to hospital and was in a state where I wasn’t able to answer the doctor’s question. I’ve been to psychiatry and neurology faculties several times. Hello. Unlike many people, I came to Dr. Emel Gökmen’s clinic with great hopes and expectations. Although I consulted many doctors, but couldn’t find a cure for my pain. And I found Dr. Gökmen on the internet. I read the same articles and comments and listened to her speech on the internet many times for three days. She was telling her treatment method so calmly and softly that I was convinced. I lost my life energy. I had no intention of doing anything. I would even upset my daughter. Everybody would tell me that I was depressed but in fact the pain I suffered from every morning and night had worn me out and made me feel tired of living. I wasn’t able to walk for thirty minutes as I felt throbbing pain in my legs. I wasn’t able to move my arms comfortably or comb my hair. I was housebound. My work life came to an end. My daughter Yağmur started vomiting when she was 2 years old. She wasn’t able to express her headache in the beginning, but when she was 4-5, she was able to express her headache and nausea complaints. My daughter is now 6.5 years old. She has been on constant medication since she was 2. The number and the dosage of her medications constantly increased. All her doctors who followed her up diagnosed her with migraine. However none of them told us that we would get rid of migraine following the treatment. We came across Emel Gökmen on the internet while searching and made a deeper research about her. For the first time a doctor was saying ‘there is a cure for migraine’. Afterwards we listened to the stories of the patients Emel Gökmen treated and saw that people experienced the same things with only a few differences. And we started to hope. We made an appointment from our doctor. In that period, our daughter started to have daily severe migraine attacks ongoing for 7-8 hours. When I came to Dr. Emel’s clinic for the first time, I had muscle and joint pains which aggravated gradually. Fatigue which gradually increased in frequency and heaviness in the head made me feel so uncomfortable. Weakening of the ability of thinking and decline in the ability of working were the main problems. Weather change doesn’t affect me as it used to before. I can get up more easily now.

I used to have migraine attacks during my menstrual period. The last time I had a migraine attack, it went on continuously for 3 months. The doctors couldn’t manage to cease my pain. They suggested to prescribe me a medication with could only be obtained by green prescription. I even had difficulty in standing and I was worried that I would become addicted to drugs as well. My trigeminal neuralgia started nearly 5 years ago. The doctors I saw before Dr. Emel prescribed me some medications and they burned the nerve twice. The medication decreased the severity of the pain in the beginning, but following the burning of the nerve procedure for the first time my pain if or 6 months but after the second procedure it got much worse. Hello to all sufferers of cluster headache. I fought with this monster for 15 years. I used so much medication but when the attack occurred, the pain made my life miserable. The positions I tried or the techniques I tried didn’t help to keep it away from me. Only the last medication I used, decreased the duration of the pain but it seemed like there was no real solution. As I was a disc jockey, I was so much exposed to triggers like light, sound, alcohol and cigarettes so my lifestyle made it more available to recur. I was in my cluster period last May. It occurred 3 times in 5 hours and was about to go crazy in the last attack. I wasn’t able to breath, I was crying. When the pain started to improve a bit, I asked ‘My God, isn’t there a salvation from this?’ and made a research on the internet and came across Emel Gökmen’s web site. Having a look on her web site, I found out that there were so many people suffering like I do. They were telling how they got rid of the pain and I wanted my pains to go away as well so I made an appointment. Dr. Emel welcomed me. Hello. I am 32 years old and I suffered from cluster headache for 8 years. I saw countless number of doctors for my illness, which started at the age of 24 and couldn’t be diagnosed in those days. When it was diagnosed after 2 years, I was told that there was no treatment, they could only keep the attacks under control and reduce the pain to a minimum level. Hello. I suffered from cluster headache for 8 months and I recommend everyone with this kind of pain to see Dr. Emel without delaying it. Only the people suffering from this can understand it. I got rid of the pain thanks to Dr. Emel. This is my story: I started to have pain episodes in the left side of my head at around the same time in the evenings 2-3 times a week 10 months ago. As I didn’t have any pain any pain after 30 minutes, I didn’t have to go to a doctor. Then the frequency of the pain increased and I went to the doctor. The doctor gave me so many medications including cortisone and told me that they might ease the pain. So there wasn’t a definitive treatment of it. Even though I took the medication, the frequency of the pain increased. I started to have pain day and night every two hours. Emel Gökmen is not just a doctor, in fact we all should be like her. We must all help each other. Dr. Emel is a helpful and conscientious person, she does her job perfectly correct. But there are many doctors, who perform their jobs perfunctorily. She was also a migraine sufferer, and it shows how fully she understands us. When I first read her book I was really excited because I thought the things written in her book was exactly what I had been going through, but I was a bit mistaken. I was about to read it second time, but I gave the book to someone who was also suffering from headaches, and the book travelled to Germany. I bought a new copy of the book, I gave it to someone else, the book is handed over all of the migraine patients I know. Everybody should read Emel Gökmen’s great, amazing, but real knowledge. Everything has a reason as Dr. Emel says.
In the last 2 years, I’ve been to dozens of hospitals and I’ve been exposed to different medication treatments. But the result was nothing but a constant escalation in my vertigo and migraine. I am 41 years old. Ever since I was a child, I struggled with pain. Even in primary school, I had headache and leg pain, which was told to be growing pain. These aches came back in my thirties. My dear doctor, there are some special people; they both do their jobs very well, and never lose their human qualities. I find myself very lucky for meeting someone like you. I want to tell the story of my disease so that it helps some people in my situation and they get the same chance like me. Four years ago I fainted in my cousin’s funeral. A few months later I was not able to keep my head straight. My head was aching, my ears were ringing, I was feeling very sluggish. I went to the doctor, and he told me I had cold. I got worse as I used drugs. I went to the doctor again. They examined my kidneys and prescribed me a lot of medication, saying that I had depression. I couldn’t understand how I finished the book. It was very fluid. Dr. Gökmen has a really understandable approach to her patients’ pain experiences, one may feel like having read a story book. It is very plain, light, and you get pleasure from the words which make you feel strong against the pain. The happy endings of the patients prove that “Gokmen Approach” overcomes the pain. I wish all of the medicine books could be like hers.

I am reading right now the book Migraine Solutions. I have learned many things from it. Thank you very much Dr. Gökmen. My husband is 83 years old, and he was sweating at nights lately. He had to have his wisdom tooth pulled out. After that procedure, he hasn’t sweated anymore.

Even for the cold, the pills you take does not have 100% guarantee to heal you, if our cold does not go away, we consult another doctor and take other pills, but we never say this doctor couldn’t heal me; because there are many medicines on the market for common cold and we all know it will go away in some way. But in severe pain like ours, for the diseases which do not have a certain cause, it is not the same. Either the doctor chooses the easy path and treats the patient with periodic treatment so that the later stages becomes more severe and unbearable, or the doctor treats the cause. The latter choice is the right one because the former one just covers the problem temporarily. Dr. Emel applies the solutions directly for the source of the problem. During my treatment, she has never told me that she will cure me; I think this is not about the certainty of the treatment , it is about the respect and empathy of Dr. Emel to her patients.

When I was having asthma attacks, I was thinking I would be never get better and hoarded voice my asthma caused would be never normal until Dr. Emel treated me. This is the the story of the treatment of my lower back hernia, meniscus, unbending feet problem, pain and edema in the leg and in the ankle. I am plus 60 years old and live in Istanbul. In my youth I forced myself too much and had spinal problems, but I was ok for the last 15 years. In February 2008 I had mistreatment in a foreign country, they applied traction to me, and as a result I had sustaining and severe pain in my both legs, in my tests the doctors told me that I had ten parts lower back hernia, and I immediately needed to have a surgery because I had a paralysis risk. I had a surgery in Istanbul, it took 5 hours and they gave me 2 units of blood, they fixed many complications. After 5 days I was discharged from hospital, my pain was gone. 15 days later I had severe pain, I couldn’t sit on my left side, couldn’t lay down, I had unbearable pain, the medications got me no relief. My doctor told me after 5 months I had to have another surgery, and they needed to fix the edema, but they could not assure that I would get better. In this stage of my disease, a relative of mine recommended neurologist Dr. Gökmen, I made an appointment and went to see her. Dr. Gökmen and her team treated me with patience and devotion. I am able to sit and lay down. The painful, worrying and sleepless nights are over now. My treatment took a bit long, because it was substantial, I also wanted this. And Dr. Gökmen treated my both knees and I got relieved from pains and edema in my knees, especially the serious swelling and pain in my left knee. I don’t need another surgery now. I had pain in my back and neck for years. But I can’t tell you how it is for the last 6 months, only who suffers from this can understand it. At home I have various massage devices and I would get relief from them for a while but the pain would recur. The painkillers ruined my stomach. I had severe pain, sensation of electrisation and flashing in my both sides of my face. I had my root canal treatments redone in my both side of my mouth. I was clenching my teeth too much, I got treated with teeth splint. I went back and forth to Istanbul for the adjustment of it. I got rid of the pain at the end, no painkiller made me relieve before. I couldn’t believe in how severe toothache could be, if I hadn’t experienced it myself.

Hello, I was born in 1978. I am a Trigeminal Neuralgia Patient for 8 years. I consulted plenty of doctors and tried so many methods such as Operation, Gamma Knife, Alcohol Blockage etc. The doctors told me I was incurable and there was no other method left to try.
